Brigid, nearly 6 and going on 29, has an amazing grasp of language. I find myself asking, repeatedly, "where did you learn THAT word from?" to which she replies, quite coyly for someone of her delicate years, "I just learned it".

Right.

Not the words you'd think, either. Words like "camouflage" and "misspoke". These are part of her lexicon.

She's only 5.

The better portion of language of a little one is what it teaches you about yourself, about the things you do and say and don't even realize. This was my most recent lesson:

"Brigid, put on a coat. I don't want you to catch a chill"

"Daddy, what does 'chill' mean....oh wait, that's right. It means 'RELAX'."

Heh.

I love my little girl.
